Meet the Experience Leaders

Experience Leaders

Hey, my name is Cotter, like that show from the sixties with John Travolta.  I am a sophomore economics major from New Carrollton, MD; just 5 miles east of the University of Maryland. I have lived in the northeastern suburbs of D.C. for my entire life.  On my spare time I like to cycle long distances with Marcus (my road bike).  I love working with my hands and am really looking forward to doing some hard labor during our experience.  As an Eagle Scout, I am obligated to constantly give back to my community and present myself in a way that continues to uphold the reputation of other Eagle Scouts throughout history.  I strongly believe that emersion and education has a profound importance in our potential long term transition to a cleaner, safer, healthier, fairer, and more sustainable world.  I am excited to be able to go back to work, lead, and learn.

Hello!  My name is Stephanie Martinez and I am one of the student trip leaders for the ASB Chesapeake Bay trip.  I am currently a junior Civil Engineering major.  Even though I was born in D.C. I was raised in Colombia (the country) and I didn't come back to the states until I was eight years old.  I am fluent in Spanish and I wish I could speak more languages.  I enjoy playing lacrosse, traveling the world, making new friends, and doing service.  I am passionate about the environment and can't wait to help lead this years Chesapeake Bay trip.

Staff Advisor

Hello everyone!  My name is David and I'm so excited to be taking part in the ASB Chesapeake Bay Experience this year.  This will be my third time serving as a Staff Advisor for this particular trip, and I'm excited to work with the Experience Leaders, Participants, and the wonderful staff at our community partner the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.  I am an academic advisor on campus, and have my bachelor's degree from the university as well.  I'm currently enrolled in graduate courses in conservation biology, public policy, and sustainable development.

Through outreach, education, restoration, advocacy and legislation, CBF works tirelessly to work towards their goal of saving the bay.  And we'll be front and center right along with them!  Planting trees, helping to grow oysters, and working on their sustainable farm (where they have wonderful cows) are just a few ways in which we'll help with their efforts. But there are many things you can do at home that make a difference as well.  Many hands make light work, as they say.  And the more people that pitch in, the better off the bay will be.

Please stay tuned here and follow us along on our adventure as it unfolds.  Together, we can "Save the Bay"!
